July 4, 2014

Happy 4th of July? In my opinion it’s a matter of perspective. We celebrate on this day in observance of our independence. What does that mean exactly? I mean sure I understand the history behind it but let’s be fair, that’s history. Our current climate is one of apathy, rationalization and quite frankly, dependency. We chat up and feel warm and fuzzy about being free all the while we offer our necks up to the yolk of tyrants. We’re told by a government that works for us how to live our lives and in the same speech tell us “do as I say, not as I do.” We literally hand forge our own shackles with our own hard earned money and skip to the docks where we eagerly await our long boat ride back across the sea. Please don’t get me wrong. This country is my home and as far as I’m concerned still the greatest country on earth. The people are what makes it great and it started with men of courage, conviction and dare I say testicular fortitude. Have these qualities been surrendered willingly or perhaps even purchased under the ruse of “entitlements”? Our challenge on this commercialized holiday of beers, brats and burger buns should be that of reflection and true observance. It’s time to wake up. Like they say “those that don’t know their history are doomed to repeat it”. Have a happy and safe Independence Day and God bless America.
